Last Blog of the season?

8th May 2021

After thinking that the forecasting season had ended in April the recent cold and snowy conditions have given another weekends forecasting. As the outlook looks mild this is probably the last blog and forecast for the season (unless the weather has other ideas – we will continue to monitor conditions).

This morning was cloudy with increasing East-South-Easterly winds. Some precipitation in the afternoon gradually turning from snow to rain as the temperature rose. Some pictures below, taken during the clearer periods, showing conditions.

The outlook for mild conditions suggests a slowly thawing but generally stable snowpack. Remaining cornices will be prone to collapse.

Still plenty of snow on Meall a’ Bhuiridh – Main Basin here.

Not much snow remaining on the Aonach Eagach.
