The Early Bird

2nd March 2022

A changeable day with early cold and clear conditions slowly changing with a reducing cloud base. Feeling cold in the strong SE winds. Generally icy and well bonded snow but with localised windslab clearly fracturing under ski and foot. Always notable but on this occasion amounts and depths are not considered sufficient to be especially problematic, something to keep an eye on. Some redistributed snow covering even notable features like glide cracks, waiting to catch you out.

Wet with some snow higher up to come overnight and tomorrow.

Limited snow on the Southerly side of the Aonach Eagach this morning

Fresh localised windslab on the north aspect of Meall a Bhuiridh

Redeposited snow was hiding this old glide crack
