A calmer day

7th January 2023

After heavy overnight rain the weather cleared to give a mainly dry day. The freezing level was just above the summits first thing falling to around 950 metres during the afternoon. There were some breaks in the cloud in the morning and visibility  improved in the afternoon. The snowpack was thawing and consolidating at most levels. The snow was soft, making trail breaking awkward at times.

A different view of the crags of Stob Coire nan Lochan with the summit visible.

Looking across to Stob Coire nam Beith, unfortunately the peaks didn’t clear till after I left.

Looking across towards Stob Coire Sgreamach, with Buchaille Etive Beag just visible behind.

The South side of the Aonach Eagach looking significantly less snowy, this will change tomorrow.
