A slow thaw

6th February 2023

The snowpack was slowly thawing today and is becoming more patchy with greatest cover on North to East aspects above 900 metres. The isolated areas of windslab that were present yesterday have now turned to wet snow with some instability persisting.

Mostly cloudy at summit level today so not ideal for photos but those below give some idea of current snow cover.

The snowpack on Meall a’ Bhuiridh is becoming more patchy.

Looking into Coire Gabhail (the Lost Valley).

Buachaille Etive Mor from Altnafeadh.

Buachaille Etive Mor from Blackrock Cottage.

The dusting of snow that was on the Aonach Eagach yesterday has now melted.

A very obvious colour difference between the new and old snow here.
