Sunshine and a light cover of new snow

7th February 2024

Fairly calm and sunny conditions today and a light cover of fresh snow made a fine change from the rain and wind of late. New snow fell to most levels overnight but was generally light. The existing snowpack is refrozen and is very icy in exposed locations. Localised areas of windslab exist in the tops of gullies and sheltered areas.

It will remain cold and dry overnight and on Thursday with cold Easterly winds developing through the day. Some redistribution of the recent snow will occur (Check out the report) any fresh cornices will be fragile. High wind chill will develop through the day. Serious consequences will exist in the event of an uncontrolled slip or fall on frozen snow.
