Views of Glencoe

26th December 2024

This morning was calmer, clearer and drier than the past couple of days, and the sun even made an appearance before cloudier conditions returned in the afternoon. This pleasant weather gave a good chance to look at what snow remains in Glencoe. Unfortunately there are only patches, mostly around coire rims and gullies on North-East and East facing aspects, many other areas are nearly snow free. Today was colder than yesterday but the freezing level remained just above the highest Glencoe summits and the thaw continues, just at a slower pace. Mild again tomorrow with drizzle and fresh Southerly winds. A return to colder conditions is forecast for saturday with snow showers above 800 metres. Unfortunately this looks to be short lived with Sunday warmer again.

Clach Leathad on the left and Criese on the right. These East facing slopes are holding as much snow as anywhere in Glencoe just now.

Glencoe ski area. The flypaper (left) and Spring run (right) are the snowiest part of the ski area just now.
