Wild, Wet, Mild and Windy…..

15th December 2024

The title pretty much sums up the day. The freezing level was well above all the summits, plus 5 degrees celsius at 1100 metres and plus 12 degrees celsius in Glencoe village which is only just above sea level. Winds and rain both intensified during the course of the day and the visibility was very poor. The snowpack is rain saturated and very much depleted at all levels. The weather didn’t deter some from wild water swimming see photos below.

Gearr Aonach and Aonanch Dubh, note, rain and snow melt pouring off the hills.

Looking towards Stob Coire nam Beith.

Web cam image showing rain on it lenses and the ski tow T bar being blown by the strong winds.

Note the swimmer in black at the top of the waterfall centre left also see photo below!!

Two days ago the surface of this water was frozen solid.

All burns are now water rivulets.
