New snow overnight becoming dry today.

1st January 2025

New snow overnight has formed a mainly light cover on slopes above 300 metres. Stability is generally good on all but isolated wind sheltered areas where drifting has formed pockets of windslab. Fragile cornices may exist in these areas. Outlook is cold and dry, this will maintain an windslab and cornice instabilities although these areas will generally be avoidable. Ice will form on rocks, paths and watercourses to lower levels.

Some overnight drifting occurred onto generally South-Easterly aspects, this example at 900 metres.

Ice has started to form on rocks, paths and in watercourses.
