Cold and clear

13th February 2025

A cold, clear day gave good views of the Glencoe area. The freezing level was around 700 metres although it felt warmer in the sunshine. The cold Easterly weather is forecast to continue with the possibility of some snow showers Friday evening into Saturday morning before continuing dry. Photos show the snow cover which is often shallow, main snow accumulations are above 800 metres. Ice is forming on paths, hillsides and in watercourses.

The Ballachulish Horseshoe (Sgurr Dhearg and Sgurr Dhonuill). Being closer to the coast these hills have less snow than some of the other Glencoe hills. Note the difference in snow cover between the South facing slopes which hold very little snow and the North facing ones which have much more.

The South side of the Aonach Eagach ridge. This view is not representative of snow cover on the ridge, the North side holds much more snow which cannot be seen from here.
