Hide and Seek

22nd February 2025

Given that it’s been very changeable today with cloudy summits, heavy rain showers and some brighter spells, it felt a little bit like hide and seek heading up the Glen to see what patchy snow remained from yesterday’s very wet and mild conditions. Whilst many aspects are all but bare, during brighter spells with summit views, it was pleasantly surprising that North and North-East aspects continue to hold some more sizeable patches (possibly even usable) above 850 metres.

Unfortunately there is always tomorrow, with further mild, wet and very windy conditions, before becoming colder next week, with freezing levels back below the summits.

A seemingly snow free South side of the Aonach Eagach ridge.

Patches and ribbons of snow in the North-East facing Coire an Tuliach and high on Stob Dearg of Buachaille Etive Mor.

A brighter interval between heavy rain showers over Meall a Bhuiridh and Sron a Creise.

The North-East aspect of Stob a Ghlais Coire and Sron na Creise above the Cam Ghleann.

Meall a Bhuiridh, North-East towards East aspect above 850 metres.

Stob Coire nan Lochan holding some of the larger patches and stripes.

If you look closely at Broad Gully on Stob Coire nan Lochan you can see a group- with me in it. Very dreich day, soggy walks in and out and mediocre but manageable snow in the gully. Thanks for all your reporting 🙂
