Damp mild and misty.

4th March 2025

Damp mild and misty conditions overnight and today. Much of the lower snow has melted overnight, further heavy rain and mild conditions are expected. Becoming cooler and drier by Friday. Greatest accumulations of snow are in the higher Northerly and Easterly corries and gullies.

Newly surfaced after last nights snow melt, Lichen or fungi? at 870 metres Meall a Bhuiridh.

Melting 900 metres, snow bridging of burns can be a serious safety concern during thaw conditions particularly where a collapse leads to entrapment between rock and snow/ice. Not so much of an issue if you have resources and shovels but a different scenario for a lone rescuer with only an ice axe for digging.

Ptarmigan pair? enjoying the misty conditions.

Melting 950 metres.
