Finally Letting Go …
3rd April 2025
Today, like yesterday, was a cloudless blue bird day, moderate to fresh South-Easterly winds at higher elevations cooling an otherwise warm day. The remaining snow patches are obviously thawing and diminishing in the mild and sunny conditions. Having to cross several patches shaded from the sun on route to higher ground, these remained firm and whilst not extensive, a simple slip could have serious consequences, ending most likely on steep bare unforgiving ground. From close up observations on Creise and towards Clach Leathad, that moment of cornices finally letting go to gravity had come and gone some time in the recent past, leaving only steeper remnants, expected to slowly thaw away like all the remaining patches, during the coming days and week ahead, with mild and dry conditions forecast.
Conditions as they now are, there is currently insufficient snow for an avalanche hazard and no avalanche reports will be published until conditions change. For further information please refer to the SAIS mountain blogs that will be published daily until the end of the season.

Not a cloud in the sky, a view over the Easterly aspect of Creise with Bidean nam Bian and Stob Coire nan Lochan in the background.

Snow patches in shady locations are set up firm, whilst all patches are now quite small a simple slip could have notable consequences sliding onto bare ground.

Thawing and diminishing snow patches in Coire Gabhail, Stob Coire Sgreamhach and the ridge towards Bidean nan Bian.

Stob Coire nan Lochan also thawing and diminishing, Broad Gully narrow but just about complete, likely firm in the shade, and as such very consequential.
