Goats
4th April 2025
There was little obvious change heading up the Glen spying the usual views up into the north facing Coires, but it was cold, especially in the shade with a fresh Easterly wind blowing. Overnight the temperature around the highest summits dropping to around 1c for a time. Heading up Beinn a Chrulaiste via the Pink Rib, as the sun gained strength it warmed, at 600 metres getting to around 10c, a little warmer later and notably more at lower elevations and in wind sheltered sun traps. At it’s 857m summit, Beinn a Chrulaiste isn’t high enough to have any remaining snow patches but the conditions and temperatures suggested little change from previous days with the remaining snow continuing to generally thaw and diminish except in shady locations or exposed to the cooling wind, the snow in these locations remaining firm, requiring care if crossed with potential for consequential slips onto bare ground.
The high pressure over the UK continues to dominate the weather into the weekend, slightly cooler tomorrow with fresh Easterly winds but remaining dry and sunny. Warmer again into next week.

By way of comparison this was the same patch 1/4/25 earlier in the week, little change, some thinning of cover and only minor patches thawing away, this remains a predominately shady area.

Broad Gully, slow to thaw compared to the other sun exposed patches on Stob Coire nan Lochan that continue to thaw and diminish.

A feral goat frequenting the broken ground at the bottom of the Pink Rib, Beinn a Chrulaiste. Others spotted later with kidds.

A panoramic view East to West around the forecast area and down the ‘Glen’. It’s hard to think of a better position for all round mountain views in such clear and sunny conditions.
