Sunshine

24th December 2025

Clear sunny conditions gave a good chance to have a look around at what snow remains in Glencoe. While some hills have very little snow, the highest hills still have some large areas of snow. The snow that remains has refrozen and is very firm and mainly on steep ground with serious slopes onto rocks below. There was also verglas (a thin layer of ice) on some rocks, particularly in shady areas, on the higher summits.

High pressure is forecast to dominate for the next few days brining more settled weather with little change expected in the remaining snow cover.

Looking along the Aonoach Eagach ridge. This is more serious than it looks in this photo and there was a thin coating of verglas on many rocks around the summit of Am Bodach. This is likely to be the case in many places along the ridge particularly on the shady North side.

Looking East from near the summit of Am Bodach. From front to back, Buachaille Etive Beag, Buachaille Etive Mor, Creise then Meall a Bhuiridh (Glencoe ski centre) at the very back.
