Calm After the Storm

28th January 2026

Following the storm force winds, rain and snow of yesterday, today was settled, calm, dry and bright with sunny periods especially during the afternoon. Much lighter winds, still from the south, the freezing level rising to around 1000 metres for a time during the afternoon. Unstable windslab has developed on many aspects in specific locations with areas exposed to the strong winds scoured and firm. At lower elevations the snowpack has started to consolidate with improving stability.

It will remain settled and generally cold up on the mountains with a South-Easterly airflow. Likely to be dry with only a small chance of an isolated shower, winds increase slightly during the day. The freezing level dropping to around 700 metres.
