Blue Skies and Sunshine

13th February 2026

A bright and sunny day buy very cold around the summits at minus 6 Celsius. The existing snowpack is frozen, hard and stable with pockets of shallow softer snow. Areas of unstable windslab remain on South-West to North-West aspects mainly above 850 metres. These accumulations are generally shallow and not widespread but are poorly bonded. Whilst yesterday’s fragile crust was not observed today, I was at a slightly lower altitude and conditions have remained consistent for snowpack instabilities to form with the continued significant temperature gradient. Small cornices are present on high Westerly aspects.

Bright start to tomorrow, becoming cloudy with overnight snow into Sunday.

Natures art again, very cold at lower levels with shallow water courses freezing.

Looking up Allt Coire Altruim, frozen and icy.

Upper elevations of Coire Altruim and the summit buttress of Stob Coire Altruim. Small cornices on these high aspects.

High summit views of Bidean nam Bian.

Looking South-West ish towards Stob Coire Altruim and Stob na Broige, Buachaille Etive Mor.

Stob Coire Dheirg and Beinn Starav, Glen Etive. A distant Ben Cruachan.
