Sunny again
10th March 2023
Another sunny morning with a cloudier afternoon. Remaining dry and cold. As forecast the wind picked up for a time on Wednesday evening and redistributed a little snow. There is currently some very isolated and very shallow but poorly bonded windsalb mainly on South-West and West aspects above 800 metres. The weak layer is caused by buried surface hoar and facets. The windslab itself is quite cohesive and firm.
Looking West along the Aonach Eagach from Am Bodach.
Stob Coire nan Lochan with Bidean nam Bian behind.
Sgorr Dhearg, Beinn a’ Bheithir
Binnein Mor, Mamores
Looking North from Am Bodach to Garbh Bheinn closest, the Mamores in the middle distance with Ben Nevis, Carn Mor Dearg, and Aonach Mor and Beag behind.
Aspect makes a big difference. Snow almost all melted by the sun on the South aspect on the left but remaining on the West aspect on the right.
Sastrugi, caused by wind erosion. The snow that the wind eroded can be seen in the photo below.
Poorly bonded but very thin and isolated windslab.
