Stob Coire nan Lochan
21st December 2025
A dry cloudy day today, some breaks in the cloud gave a chance to get some views of the snow cover remaining on Stob Coire nan Lochan and towards Bidean nam Bian. The snow had begun to refreeze overnight and there was a thin breakable crust above around 950 metres. The snow cover is shallow and generally exists above 800 metres with most snow on North to East aspects. Thaw conditions tomorrow with rain in the morning, a drier afternoon will follow although the freezing level remains above the summits with strong Easterly winds. A calmer period of weather is forecast beyond this with sunshine forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.
A small cornice above the head of Coire Gabhail (the hidden valley). While any remaining cornices are small they will be prone to collapse in the rain and milder weather.
The South side of the Aonach Eagach only a few small patches, there is likely to be more snow cover on the North side.
