Thawing

22nd December 2025

Light rain this morning eased, however the freezing level remained above the summits and the cloud level remained low. The remaining patchy snowpack is gradually thawing at all levels. A similar situation tomorrow with mild cloudy conditions and a continuing thaw. Sunnier and colder weather is forecast from Wednesday as high pressure starts to build.

Poor visibility limited the photos today, they should give an impression of the patchy nature of the cover though. Largest areas remain on North to East aspects above 950 metres, particularly in gullies and around Coire rims.

Very patchy snow at around 900 metres on Meall a Bhuiridh on a North-East facing slope

Slightly better cover looking towards the summit of Meall a’ Bhuiridh, also on a North-East facing slope. Photo taken at around 1000 metres.

Only very small patches remain on the South facing slopes just below the summit of Meall a’Bhuiridh. (1108metres)
