Low Winter Sunshine

30th December 2025

Another very cold and bright day with plenty of low winter sunshine and light Easterly winds. Much of the bare ground was again coated with an overnight frost with paths and hillsides well frozen with water ice and, above about 950 metres, the remaining very patchy snow, especially in sheltered gullies and hollows. Whilst the sunshine defrosted some sun exposed areas, it remained mainly sub zero at most elevations.

A change ahead, to a North-Westerly airflow will bring increasing cloud and for a period, a rising freezing level to around 900 metres. Snow showers expected during the afternoon are not expected to be significant, with only minimal accumulations, most falling mainly on bare ground…but maybe, hopefully, more is on the way into New Year’s day.
