A few views this morning

2nd February 2026

The South-Easterly airstream continues and today was another mostly cloudy day. There were some clear spells this morning particularly on the more coastal hills, cloud developed to lower levels during the day with visibility becoming increasingly poor. The freezing level was around 950 metres, although conditions were generally damp to the summits particularly where in the cloud.  Occasional snow flurries on the summits didn’t produce any significant change, rime remains on features and rocks above around 950 metres.

Any new snow amounts over the forecast period are not expected to be significant and the existing snowpack will continue to consolidate. The snow surface is likely to either be hard and icy or develop a breakable crust as the freezing level lowers to around 400 metres. Most photos are from this morning when visibility was at its best.
