Puddles of Sunshine in the Glen
7th March 2026
There has been no change in conditions overnight, remaining dry with the freezing level to lower elevations. Generally bright through the day with puddles of sunshine in the glen this morning, though stubbornly cloudy over the highest summits. The snowpack remains icy and stable with the smallest pockets of wind blown snow gathering in sheltered locations, mainly amongst grass and behind rocks and boulders. Isolated shallow drifts were observed. Around the middle of the day there was little evidence of thawing above 800 metres though the freezing level was slowly rising to around the highest summits.
Whilst a slow softening of the existing snowpack is expected overnight and through the day the wet bulb freezing level remains around the highest summits, which likely will remain frozen. Stability will be generally good.
Yesterday’s photos provide better views into many of the snowy locations in the glen and remain representative for today given no change.
Little to no change in snowpack cover across the region with the low freezing level overnight. Stob Coire nan Lochan.
The summit of Meall a Bhuiridh in a brief clearing, generally the highest summits have remained cloud covered. The snow here is very hard and icy.
Small pockets of soft wind blown snow gathering in the shelter of a boulder, though amounts are insignificant with the snowpack most generally being icy, hard and stable.
Typical for the day on the high summits. The general distinction between Southerly and Northerly aspects on Meall a Bhuiridh and across the glen.
