A pleasant day with sunshine and light rain showers. The mid-day summit temperature at 1100 metres was 0.7 degrees Celsius with fresh North-North-Westerly winds.

Forecast general situation.

A cold and windy spell of weather with some snow showers across the hills. The showers running in from the North-West, Â these showers won’t be particularly heavy or long lasting so no significant accumulations are expected. The winds will be from a North-Westerly direction with occasional gusts close to gale force over the summits/ridges, particularly near the showers.

Outlook for the next 48 hrs

As has been the pattern for much of the winter, the cold conditions will be quickly replaced by milder conditions on Sunday as winds back to more of a Westerly direction with some outbreaks of rain in the west. It will then turn very windy later on Sunday and into Monday with severe gales likely over the hills. Into Monday much colder air will spread down from the north allowing a return of snow showers, these likely to be heavier and more frequent than we have seen recently with some significant accumulations (for the time of year) likely to develop into Tuesday.
