Snow…

Well the rain that was thrashing down in the glen yesterday evening was definitely falling as snow at altitude: There’s plenty of the white stuff at altitude now. While yesterday’s snow was damp, sticky and moderately well bonded – today’s has fallen in much colder temperatures and is dry, light and drifting easily. Today’s winds were fickle and gusty – blowing from variable directions – with pockets of wind slab developing in wind sheltered features and on micro-aspects. It’s not difficult to spot – It’s dry, chalky, squeaky and cracks underfoot. Very different from the wet grains and sticky wet snow we’ve been walking on recently.
A more showery regime is forecast for tomorrow but with the freezing level remaining relatively low and the winds staying strong, there will be plenty of redistribution occurring. Winds are due to veer to the NW – so the windslab distribution map is going to expand a little. As ever, stay switched on to conditions around and above you…Have fun out there – stay safe!
