Temperature inversion….

There was a temperature inversion today, summit temperatures were plus 8.1 degrees celsius with 4.5 degrees at 700 metres. It was dry, South-Westerly winds were very light.

Todays inversion, taken near the summit of Meall a’ Bhuiridh looking northwards.

Forecast; Staying dry with light South-Westerly winds. A ridge of high pressure will persist across the area, this will gradually strengthening the inversion, which in turn allows temperatures across summits to lift higher than at low levels. Freezing level at around 3000 metres.

The snowpack will generally be soft and moist with good stability in most locations, isolated shallow surface instabilities will remain a possibility on the very steepest slopes but these will be localised and avoidable. The avalanche hazard will be Low.
