A pleasant winters day

16th January 2022

As forecast the freezing level rose to just above the summits last night with light rain followed by a dusting of wet snow above 900 metres. The freezing level then dropped to around 750 metres today and both the new and old snow are frozen and stable. It was nice to see a bit of sun this morning although a temperature of -2.5 degrees and around a 20mph wind made it feel cold.

Photos below showing snow cover today.

A dusting of snow on the summit of Meall a’ Bhuiridh with Rannoch Moor behind. This fell as wet snow last night and was frozen today.

Although this ptarmigan stands out here, there were several snow patches close by so it wasn’t so obvious as it looks.
