High water levels

30th December 2024

Very heavy rain overnight and early this morning cleared to give a mainly dry day with easing South-Westerly winds. Continued thaw conditions mean there is currently very little snow in Glencoe with only a few patches remaining. High water levels were the main feature of today and many rivers will have been impossible to cross. Similar water levels are expected tomorrow after tonights rain. The freezing level is now dropping and snow above 800 metres will precede the overnight rain,  however this will fall on bare ground and quickly melt as the freezing levels rise again. The freezing level will drop as precipitation eases through the day tomorrow, a few light showers towards the end of the afternoon will be snow above around 1000 metres, however only very small amounts are expected. Colder temperatures are forecast from Wednesday.

High water levels were the main feature of today, this is a waterfall in the Allt Coire nam Beithach.

Looking across to the South side of the Aonach Eagach, again high water levels are obvious.
