Blue sky day.

18th March 2025

Cold and frosty overnight conditions gave way to a perfect calm, clear and sunny day. Warming occurred in sun affected areas but shaded areas remained distinctly cool maintaining a firm and sometimes icy surface on the remaining snow.

To quote Dickens from Great Expectations “It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it’s summer in the light and winter in the shade” The quote seems to fit today perfectly.

Only limited snow cover remains as patches in the higher Northerly and Easterly corries and gullies. The snow patches will remain firm and possibly icy in the more sheltered gullies and hollows on Wednesday. Icy patches will also exist on higher paths, rocks and watercourses. In most cases these areas are avoidable but uncontrolled slips at present have some fairly serious run outs onto exposed rocks.
