A similar morning to yesterday but even colder with stronger South-Easterly winds. Dry in the morning with some afternoon snow showers.
Stob Dearg, Buachaille Etive Mor
Near the summit of Meall a’ Bhuiridh the hard top layer of windslab sheared easily on faceted crystals in the softer layer below. The recent very cold temperatures have created a strong temperature gradient in the snowpack which causes the upward transfer of water vapour and the growth of faceted crystals.
The recent cold temperatures have frozen most running water including here beside the A82.
