Further snow showers

17th December 2022

Showers, falling as snow above around 400 metres, and moderate South-Westerly winds today. Some significant accumulations of fresh snow from yesterday and overnight were present, giving a widespread cover at lower elevations with drifting to wind sheltered locations at higher elevations.

A good amount of snow accumulated in the lee of a fence. This is a good indication that naturally sheltered locations will also have accumulated fresh snow.

A long shooting crack coming from my footprint (pole for scale). Not steep enough to avalanche here but a good sign of instability. It’s hard to see in the photo but he crack zigzags across and up the hill for around 15 metres.
