Still wintry high up

31st March 2016

It was still feeling pretty wintry on the higher peaks of Glen Coe today. However, spring is certainly making it’s presence felt at lower levels and on Southerly aspects. Southerly aspects in general are looking pretty bare. Debris from a cornice collapse, most likely caused by yesterdays sunshine and high temperatures was noted on Clach Leathad. Unfortunately a return to autumn conditions with strong winds and heavy rain (wet snow at the highest levels) being expected tomorrow (Friday).

Debris from a cornice collapse on Clath Leathad. This probably occurred during the strong sunshine yesterday. Remaining cornices will be prone to collapse in the mild and wet conditions forecast for tomorrow (Friday).

What a difference an aspect makes. The South side of Meall a Bhuiridh looking pretty bare and spring-like, while the North side still looks pretty wintry.

The summit of Creise still hold a fair amount of snow.
