Dry but windy
27th December 2016
After a few overnight snow showers above 900 metres it was dry and bright today. South-Westerly winds were still quite strong over the summits. The snowpack has gone through a melt freeze cycle so the surface is quite firm and icy in places particularly above 800 metres. The strong winds winds have also scour the snowpack leaving it firm or the ground bare of snow.
