Stormy Skies.

16th March 2018

There were some stormy looking skies in Glen Coe today. The South-Easterly wind was howling down the Glen. On the hill visibility was poor but it was not nearly as windy as expected. In fact it was about as windy at an altitude of 1100m on the summit of Meall a Bhuiridh as it was at 90m by Loch Achtriochtan. The freezing level was about 600m, with some light snow from time to time.

Poor visibility, and plenty of riming going on at 1100m.

Detal of rime on the windward side of a boulder showing the flow patterns of the air.

Stormy skies!
