A pleasant start to 2019
1st January 2019
It was a generally dry and pleasant start to 2019. What is left of the snowpack after the mild and wet conditions of the last week has frozen. However, the snowpack is still looking pretty sparse.
The view up towards Stob Coire nan Lochan. Broad Gully looking just about complete.
The Buachaille looking not very wintery.
Patches of hard and icy snow in gully lines.
Spray from a stream produced some nice icy sculptures.
I had hoped to get a view over to Creise and Clach Leathad to see how much snow remains there. Unfortunately the cloud came in before I reached the summit of Meall a Bhuirdh. This was the view from just below the summit.
Glen Coe ski area have a snow making machine. This is the pipe where the “fresh” snow is ejected.
A view of the snow machine’s fresh snow in my gloved hand. It looks to me like chips of rime ice.
The artificial snow certainly seemed popular with the sledgers.
