Still mild today

13th February 2022

Today was milder than forecast. The weather was dry this morning and the snowpack although soft was consolidating. It clouded over around mid morning with some light showers in the afternoon. Cloud limited the photo opportunities today. Above 950 metres, on North to East aspects, there is a very thin covering of new snow from precipitation last night, this is insulating the moist older snowpack underneath it. Walking was hard going at times in the soft snow today and climbers were reporting poor conditions due to the milder temperatures.

The cloud came in at the wrong time. This is the approach slopes to the main crags in Stob Coire nan Lochan.

Looking bit more wintry at 1050m.Verglass on some of the rocks. The snowpack had not refrozen this time though.
