Very wintery

10th February 2022

There were difficult conditions in the mountains today with very strong Westerly winds and snow showers. Even when it wasn’t snowing there was airborne snow being carried by the wind. Areas exposed to the wind were scoured and often icy but unstable windslab was accumulating quickly in sheltered locations. Overnight snow on the road was thawing today.

On Meall a’ Bhuiridh ridges were getting scoured but gullies and hollows accumulating snow fairly quickly in the strong Westerly winds today.

Not great conditions for photography but it’s drifting snow rather than cloud that can be seen getting blown over Creag Dhubh.

After ten minutes most of my rucksack was buried by drifting snow.
