Clear and Sunny

8th March 2023

Today was a clear and sunny day. Temperatures in the shade remained below freezing at most levels. There is little change in the snowpack. The older snowpack remains firm, icy and stable. The thin covering of soft snow remains at higher elevations and in the shade, but is melting fast where it overlies bare ground and is exposed to the sun. Similar conditions tomorrow although wind is increasing with some redistribution of the softer snow particularly during the afternoon.

Surface hoar crystals growing on the snow surface in the cold clear conditions overnight. These aren’t a problem in themselves but could be if fresh windslab forms over them.
